an adolescent — a teenager
1. Read the dialogue and choose the correct answer
Presenter Mr. Brown Good afternoon, Mr. Brown! We are happy to have you today and have the opportunity to discuss such a widely spread problem as cyberbullying. Hi, everyone! Sure, you are absolutely right. It is a topic of current importance. Ok, let's start. What percentage of teenagers face cyberbullying? It depends on the age and it's hard to mention the exact percentage. However, a lot of adolescents face cyberbullying episodes from time to time, including as witnesses. Which adolescents are at risk? Any teenager has a chance to be a victim of cyberbullying, unfortunately. If a child has low self-esteem and self-confidence, he has no friends, and lack of support from peers and parents, then all these reduce their resistance to aggression on the Internet. To prevent a situation is the parents' task. They must control how their child uses the Internet, the child's knowledge about it, the ability to consult with the parent about what is happening on the Internet, and, in general, support, care, and demonstrate attention to a teenager. What are the models of behaviour of a victim and an aggressor on the Internet? Some might say that the text messages we exchange contain more positive and supportive phrases than our live conversations. The same is about cyberbullying, people write much more violent and harsh things online than they would in private. Unlike face-to-face situations, when an aggressor can observe the victim's reaction and stop. Unfortunately, there is no measure of aggression on the Internet, so what is happening can become even more violent than it happens in real life. Thank you, Mr. Brown. We'll continue after a short break.
