Switch On Your Mobile
Currently, three
schools in the Richmond area (UK) have been taking part in a revolutionary
project, called Mobile learning or mlearning. In this
m-learning project students have been using their mobile phones during classes
to get some information. So far, students have been very motivated by the
project. They were also very quick to learn how to use the new mobile phone
applications.
The UK has a high
number of mobile phones, with about 90% of homes owning 3 to 4 gadgets. Every
phone nowadays has a link to the Internet and can do all kinds of messaging.
Besides, they are much smaller than computers so you can take them anywhere.
Students can use the
phones to get access to learning materials. Also, there are amazing
possibilities for language classes. For example, young people can see and easily
talk to people in a school all over the world. Using various applications can
help students revise the vocabulary and grammar rules even at home.
Teachers generally
ask students to turn off their mobile phones. But these gadgets may become the
main classroom aid for teaching and learning. However, it is good to remember
that using mobile phones should not replace learning in a real class.
