It's Maslenitsa Festival. It's a traditional Russian festival that marks the end of winter and the beginning of spring. It is celebrated for a week in February or March.
The festival is also known as Pancake Week because people cook and make a lot of pancakes during this time. In fact, pancakes are the main symbol of the festival and are believed to represent the sun, which is returning after a long winter.
Burning a Maslenitsa doll is the most important event during Maslenitsa Festival. A Maslenitsa doll is made from straw and dressed in traditional clothing. People burn it on the last day of the festival to symbolise the end of winter.
