Stonehenge, a very old stone monument is on Salisbury Plain, about 13 km north of Salisbury, Wiltshire, England.

No one knows who built Stonehenge. The site on Salisbury Plain in England was probably used for ceremonial purposes and rebuilt by many different groups of people at different times.

Stonehenge was built in six stages between 3000 and 1520 BC, during the transition from the Neolithic Period (New Stone Age) to the Bronze Age.

Stonehenge is constructed from sarsen stones, a type of stone found in England, and bluestones, a dolomite variation extracted from western Wales.

Stonehenge was not built by aliens. This modern myth gained popularity after the book Chariots of the Gods? which was published in 1968. In the book, the author wrote that many monuments, including Stonehenge, could be built by extraterrestrials.

The name of the monument probably derives from the Saxon stan-hengen, meaning “stone hanging”.
