Match the name of the sport to its definition.
It is a training discipline developed from military obstacle course training, which gives it some aspects of a non-combative martial art. Participants need to get from one point to another in a complex environment, without assistive equipment and in the fastest and most efficient way possible. This may involve overcoming physical barriers on any given route, and using the environment around you as practically as it possibly can be.
It is an acrobatic and athletic discipline founded by Sébastien Foucan, who developed it as a more inclusive form of parkour but with a lot more emphasis on self-expression and movements done purely for aesthetic value. It combines gymnastics and acrobatics with the movements traditionally seen as parkour. It is ‘the art of expression through motion’.
It is an action sport that involves riding and performing tricks using special equipment although it can also be considered a recreational activity or a method of transportation. Since the 1970s, special areas have been constructed specifically for use by sportsmen. However, the activity has become controversial in areas in which the activity has damaged curbs, steps, benches, plazas and parks.
This is a kind of water sport in which a person rides on the face of a moving wave, which is usually carrying him or her towards the shore. Suitable waves are primarily found in the ocean, but can also be found in lakes or in rivers in the form of a standing wave or tidal bore. However, sportsmen can also use artificial waves for training such as those from boat wakes and the waves created in artificial wave pools.
This sport requires endurance, strength, balance and self-reliance. Advanced riders pursue both steep technical descents and high incline climbs. In the case of freeride, downhill and dirt jumping are performed off both natural features and specially constructed jumps and ramps. Sportsmen ride on off-road trails and often venture to ski resorts that stay open in the summer for such activities.
It is a type of off-road bicycle racing on purpose-built off-road single-lap race tracks. The track usually consists of a starting gate for up to eight racers, a groomed, serpentine, dirt race course made of various jumps and rollers and a finish line. The course is usually flat, about 5 metres wide and has large banked corners that help the riders maintain speed. The sport is very family oriented and largely participant-driven.
This is a winter sport that involves descending a slope that is covered with snow while standing on a board attached to a rider’s feet, using a special boot set onto a mounted binding. Its development was inspired by skateboarding, sledding, surfing and skiing. Today, it is practised at winter resorts with special lifts that transport people up the mountain.
