It is the fourth largest country in the world. This country occupies the southern part of North America and stretches from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean. It borders only on three countries: it has a land border with two countries and a sea border with one country.

The northwest part of the country (the forehead) is covered by misty, green mountains. Rising up from the Cambodian border is the Khorat plateau (the ears of the elephant), which occupies third of the country. The northeast of the country is dominated by the mighty Mekong River, which flows into Cambodia.

This country is situated on a tropical island with a rich and colorful landscape. It has mountains, lakes and rivers, plains, basins, and is surrounded by 3 seas. The country is located 120 km off the coast of China and 355 km north of the Philippines. It is about the same size as Switzerland or Belgium. About 70% of the island is covered with rugged, densely forested mountains. The Central Mountain Range is the most outstanding topographical highlight of the country. About 240 peaks rise above 3000 m. The tallest peak of the island is Mt. Jade (at 3952 m). On a clear day, you can see mountains from anywhere on the island.
