George (G): Hey Lorette! You look really upset! What’s up?

Lorette (L): The classmates are laughing at me because I’m afraid of the dark!

G: Are you really? But why? Feel free to tell me, I won’t laugh.

L: Do you promise? OK then. It happened two years ago. Mum and Dad went to the restaurant and I stayed at home with grandpa. I really adore him; we enjoy spending time together because we have the same interests. We were watching a film until midnight, and it was thrilling but kind of scary. It was pretty late when we went to bed.

G: OK. What happened next? I think I’m starting to understand something... But tell me what scared you, Lorette!

L: Then we went to bed. Grandpa was sleeping downstairs and bedroom is upstairs so I went there. When I almost fell asleep it got extremely windy outside. The branches of the tree that is next to house started to knock on window. I got really frightened!

G: Why didn’t you call grandpa?

L: I was so scared that I couldn’t produce a sound! I thought it was some person trying to get into the room! Maybe a thief or a robber.

G: But did you tell grandpa that you had been frightened the night before? What did he say?

L: Yes, I did. And grandpa was very kind to me. He said that it was OK to get scared in that situation. But that didn’t help, unfortunately. Now I’m afraid of the dark.

G: You know, I have that new book by a well-known author. He tells how to conquer fear in 25 days. I used to be afraid of bees and now I find them very cute! I could lend it to you, Lorette.

L: That’ll be just awesome, George. Thank you very much!
