Relative Pronouns and Adverbs
Relative clauses give us additional information about someone or something. We use relative pronouns and adverbs to introduce relative clauses.
Relative pronouns: who, which, that, whose.
We use who/that to give information about people:The man whois smiling at us is my uncle.
We use which/that to give information about things: A palette isan object that you use to mix colours.
We use whose to give information about possession: This isthe man whosecar has been stolen.
Relative adverbs: when, where, why.
We use when to give information about the time:Spring isthe season whennature comes to life.
We use where to give information about the place:London isthe city whereI met my wife.
We use why to give information about the reason:Panic isthe reason whymany accidents happen.
