The rules

1. We use much, many, a lot of to talk about the amount of something.

2. We use much in negative sentences with uncountable nouns and many in negative sentences with countable nouns.

3. We use a lot of to describe a large quantity of something.

4. We use how many / how much to ask about quantity.

5. I don't drink [many|much] cola.

6. How [much|many] tomatoes are in the fridge?

7. I need [many|a lot of] sugar to cook dessert for the birthday party.

8. How [much|many] water do you drink every day?

9. We always buy [many|much] cartons of milk. Our family likes it a lot!

10. Don't eat [many|much] chocolate: it's not healthy!
