Mass media
I asked my granny what it was like to listen to old radio shows in her time. Her favourite soap opera was originally a radio show before it was on television. She said it was unique because you had to imagine what the characters looked like. Her favourite news presenter would come on after the show.
Times certainly have changed, haven't they? Everything is now online and global, and news from one part of the world is known everywhere in less than a minute.
My favourite programme this week is on a streaming service. I don't even own a television; I watch all my shows on my tablet. I think my generation enjoys moving on from one series to the next rather quickly, while my granny was loyal to one for a long time. I live in a digital world. My games are on my mobile, and I also get my news from social media. I like how the news is known instantly. All of my favourite journalists are also online, and I can even interact with them and ask them questions about their articles. Famous broadcasters are closer than ever to their audience. You could say that I, like everyone else my age, am impatient. I don't want to wait to get the latest updates.
My parents still read the newspaper when they eat breakfast every morning. They are both on social media, but they told me they like reading while they eat. It's an old habit they have. The newspaper is a locally owned press company, and they enjoy reading about what's going on in their small town in the paper. Once, my dad's picture was in the newspaper because he is a fireman, and they published an article about how he saved a woman from her house that was on fire. He was humble and said it was not special as he was just doing his job. I think the news on social media is more global, and sometimes they forget about all the small local things that happen.
We really are a global world now. Everything in the media is mass-produced to get the most views. Gradually, we have moved away from traditional media. Some people believe the quality is gone. My dad said that there is a big difference between what he reads in the morning and what he sees online. He told me that news should be factual, serious, and right to the point. Society is much different now, and the media is more about entertainment, and some of it is humorous. I think our information should appeal to a wide audience. And now, we can find anything we look for just by searching for it. This includes the news.
It's hard to keep up with all the available information. The internet is constantly being updated with new information every minute. Some people get addicted to it. My parents tell me to be careful and enjoy things offline as well. My friend announced that her birthday is this weekend and wants everyone to come to her party. She only announced it on social media. This is the way we communicate now. Everything is mainstream and global. Our world is big, but we are all connected. I guarantee we will continue to move into the electronic age of information. We cannot hesitate, or else we will be left behind.
