A) As the world's population rises, the amount of resources available for survival decreases. In fact, the population has grown to an unsustainable level. The more people there are on the planet, the more they release carbon dioxide and other gasses into the air. The growing population comes with the cost of greenhouse gases and climate change. Until people realize that they have a direct impact on these pressing environmental issues, their behavior won't change. Resources aren't always sustainably sourced, but without those resources, the population won't survive. Hopefully, we don't realize this too late.

B) Plastic is an enormous part of our daily lives. It's in the pens we use at work, the computers we carry with us and even the lunches we pack every day. It is one of the most useful, versatile tools in our arsenal, but it's also one of the most significant environmental problems that we're facing. Literal tons of plastic are clogging up our oceans — the largest being the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, which sits between Hawaii and California and is twice the size of the state of Texas. In response to this, many people are vowing to live a plastic-free lifestyle — but for others, that is easier said than done.
C) Working remotely also reduces energy consumption, another primary contributor to climate change. It can lead to increased energy use at home but less in offices where there are already so many appliances and technologies running up the electric bill. Working remotely has benefits beyond just getting to stay in your pajamas all day. In fact, the positive impacts extend to the environment as a whole. Not having to commute cuts down on your emissions considerably.
D) Recently, organisers gave on a huge concert called Live Earth. They wanted to make everyone more aware of the dangers of climate change. The concerts needed to be environmentally-friendly, so the organisers used biofuels to power the lights and used recycled car tyres to make the stage. They also provided recycling containers for people to dump their empty drink cans in. Over 100 musicians and celebrities took part in the live show. They urged fans to take actions against global warming by demanding more renewable energy, and by helping to rescue the rainforests.

E) According to the Oxford Dictionary, urban sprawl is defined as the "uncontrolled expansion of urban areas". Essentially, when city-dwellers get fed up with their crowded surroundings, they spread out into less developed regions nearby. They move out of the city trying to find a better place to live, without having to navigate the hustle and bustle of city life.

So, what can we do to slow down urban sprawl?

The key here is a combination of smart growth and new urbanism. Smart growth relies on city planners to make intelligent choices for their urban and suburban environments. New urbanism focuses on turning existing cities into places that don't negatively impact the environment — reducing pollution, providing more avenues for foot and bicycle traffic.
