Open to revise the rule
Remember the forms of "to be" in the Past Simple:
(+) I/she/he/it was, you/we/they were.
(−) I/she/he/it was not (= wasn't), you/we/they were not (= weren't).
(?) Was I/she/he/it... ? Were you/we/they... ?
Usage: to talk about past states, not actions!
Helpful words: yesterday, last week/month/year, in 2020 (or any other year in the past), ago.
