Complete the task

Three teenagers—Lena, Danil and Artem—have to make a presentation on an environmental problem. They decided to search the internet for some information.

Read the text and put the headings in their places.

  • Climate change: what is it?
  • What is CO₂?
  • What causes the excess of CO₂?
  • What are the results of the CO₂ excess?
  • What exactly does it do to nature?

Carbon dioxide or CO₂ is vital for our planet not to get frozen solid, since it makes air, soil and ocean waters warmer.

[ ]

But now a new problem has arisen: the levels of CO₂ are reaching a critical point where there is too much of it being produced due to cars, factories, deforestation and agriculture to some extent.

[ ]

This leads to temperature rising all over the globe, which may seem nice at first—there is no snow in winter, and the climate is mild, so you can wear a coat as if it is spring. But the problem lies in how harmful it is to nature.

[ ]

Extreme droughts lead to increased risk of wildfires, and the rising sea levels cause flooding and, as a result, destruction not only of people's property and crops but also of the soil's natural balance. Moreover, it leads to the extinction of many plants and animals all around the world.
