Задание
Imagine you are doing a project on how American teenagers spend their pocket money. You have collected some data on the subject – the results of the opinion polls \(see the table below\).
Read the following comment on the data in the table and put the paragraphs in the correct order according to the following plan:
– make an opening statement on the subject of the project work;
– select and report 2–3 main features;
– make 1–2 comparisons where relevant;
– outline a problem that can arise with spending money and suggest the way of solving it;
– draw a conclusion giving your personal opinion on the importance of friendship in our life.
- Nowadays money matters are becoming more and more crucial. Teenagers all over the world tend to think that their parents' duty is to give them pocket money. The pie chart shows the most common expenses of adolescents from the USA.
- The main point that is noticeable is that teens spend upwards of 30% of the money on new clothes. As the young prefer to fritter away about 15% of their money buying new video games and CDs, cinema, etc., another important item of their expenses is entertainment. Moreover, they pay roughly the same amount of money for eating out and cosmetics.
- In contrast, they spend less than 5% on adornments, which is not surprising because jewellery is mostly preferred by girls and has a high cost.
- As for the problems that are connected to money, the most widespread one is the fact that adolescents the majority of whom have never earned any money want to buy swanky items and feel hurt by their parents when they are refused. Personally, I suggest that these parents should offer their children to earn some money and spend it the way they wish. Teenagers are likely to change their minds concerning money waste.
- As far as I am concerned, I strongly believe that teenagers may use their pocket money the way they want unless they dig deeper into their parents' pockets in order to buy something superfluous. To my mind, if someone feels a strong desire to buy a thing to excess, they should spend the money they have earned by themselves.
