Past Simple
Past Simple, или простое прошедшее время, употребляется для выражения действий, произошедших в прошлом, с указанием времени действия (yesterday, a week/month/year ago, last week/month/year, in 1986, the other day).

Чтобы образовать прошедшее время, к начальной форме правильных глаголов добавляется окончание -ed.

Open — opened, finish — finished.

У неправильных глаголов в прошедшем времени полностью изменяется форма, например, путём изменения корневой гласной. Форму прошедшего времени неправильных глаголов нужно выучить.

See — saw, come — came.

Отрицательные и вопросительные предложения образуются с помощью did / did not (didn't) и основной формы смыслового глагола.

She didn't send a letter yesterday.
