When the war ended, Sergey Botkin went abroad to master his skills. He used to practise in laboratories of France and Germany.

He was the first doctor in Russia to open a clinic based on European standards. In his clinic he introduced research and analysis techniques such as the so called ‘clinical discussion of patients’. His enthusiasm resulted in the construction of several hospitals.

Sergey Botkin died in 1889 in France. He was recognized as one of scientists, not only in Russia, but also all over the world.
