Saint Petersburg is also known as 'Venice of the North' and there's no mystery why. With its many beautiful buildings built along its numerous canals, it surely is picturesque and majestic city. There are also more than 400 bridges crossing its canals thanks mainly to urban project begun in 1703 under Peter the Great.

Start at Petrogradskaya (metro Gorkovskaya) and go across Troitsky Bridge from where you'll get great view of the central part of city including Spit of Vasilyevsky Island, Admiralty Tower, St. Isaac's Cathedral and Peter and Paul Fortress. Cross the bridge and you'll find yourself in one of most charming neighbourhoods you could imagine full of museums, monuments, and architectural masterpieces. You shouldn't miss Palace Square. It is one of most grandiose squares of the city with it’s Winter Palace, the royal residence of all Russian Emperors except Paul. From here you should just wander around and you won't be short of surprises.
