D.[1|2|3|4] The intriguing plot is extremely clever. It gives a realistic description of the evils of war as well as an insight into world politics at that time in history. What adds to the novel's appeal is that the main character is not very likeable. He is very cynical, but this makes him all the more interesting and realistic.
