The plural form of a noun
- The plural of a noun usually ends in -s: a cat — two cats, a house — four houses.
- After -s(s), -sh, -ch, -x, -o we use -es: bus — buses, brush — brushes, match — matches, fox — foxes, tomato — tomatoes.
- When -y follows a consonant, it changes into -ies: lady — ladies, city — cities.
- When -y follows a vowel (-ay, -ey, -oy, -uy), we add -s to the word: day — days, key — keys, toy — toys, guy — guys.
- Letters -f, -fe change into -ves: leaf — leaves, wife — wives.
Some nouns are irregular:
- man — men;
- woman — women;
- child — children;
- person — people;
- policeman — policemen;
- foot — feet;
- tooth — teeth;
- goose — geese;
- mouse — mice.
