Reported speech
Theysaid (that) they had been to Italy two years before.
They told us(that) they had been to Italy two years before.
Past Simple.
Tom said: "I am a student". — Tom said he was a student.
Peter told me: "I am having breakfast now". — Peter told me he was having breakfast at that moment.
Present Perfect изменяется на Past Perfect.
Sam said: "There has been no renovation for 15 years". — Sam said there had been no renovation for 15 years.
Past Simple изменится на Past Perfect.
Irene said: "I was at work yesterday". — Irene said she had been at home the day before.
Past Continuous изменится на Past Perfect Continuous.
My friends said: "We were playing chess". — My friends said they had been playing chess.
Olga said: "I will come to you tomorrow". — Olga said she would come to me the next day.
Mum said: "Do you want porridge for breakfast?" — She asked if/whether I wanted porridge for breakfast.
Mum asked: "When do your lessons start?" — Mum asked me when my lessons started.
- this, these (этот, эти) — that, those (тот, те);
- here (здесь) — there (там);
- now (сейчас) — then (тогда);
- today (сегодня) — that day (в тот день);
- tomorrow (завтра) — the next day (на следующий день);
- yesterday (вчера) — the day before/the previous day (за день);
- ago (тому назад) — before (до того, раньше);
