Some animals eat mainly plants. Some animals eat other animals. An animal that eats other animals is called a predator. The animals that it kills and eats are its prey.

The grasshopper eats the plant. Then the grasshopper becomes the prey for the lizard, which is the predator. Then the lizard becomes the prey of the hawk, which is another predator.
