British Meals.

British people have three main meals a

day. They are breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast is between seven and nine in

the morning. Lunch is between 12:00 and 1:30 p.m. Dinner is the biggest meal

for many people. It is between 6:30 and 8:00 p.m. On Sundays many people have

the biggest meal of the day at midday instead of the evening. This meal is

usually a Roast dinner. People have roast meat, Yorkshire pudding and two or

three kinds of vegetables. Yorkshire pudding sounds like a dessert, but it's

not because there is roast meat and vegetables in it.

Many people around the world know that a

traditional English breakfast consists of eggs, bacon, sausages and fried bread

but nowadays many people in Britain

like a light breakfast and have a bowl of cereals, a slice of toast, orange

juice and a cup of coffee. Many children at school have a "packed

lunch". This typically consists of a sandwich, a packet of crisps, a piece

of fruit and a drink.

The British have a tradition of

"afternoon tea". This is a small meal, not a drink. Afternoon tea

consists of tea or coffee and scones with cream and jam or sandwiches. Afternoon

tea became popular one hundred and fifty years ago when rich ladies invited

their friends to their house for a cup of tea. They gave their visitors cakes

and sandwiches too.

People in Britain have dinner in the afternoon.

The largest meal is breakfast.

Dinner is an evening meal.
