Strategies and useful tips* Read the statements very carefully and point out the keywords to help you focus on what to listen for.
- The questions follow the order of the information in the recording.
- Do not confuse FALSE and NOT STATED. Be particularly careful with Not stated answers: information about this is just not in the text.
- Remember that answers should be based on information in the text, not what you personally think or know.
- If any of the statements are connected with feelings/opinions, think about how these might be expressed.
- Be careful with negatives in the statements.
- Listen and begin answering. Don't expect to be able to answer everything during the first listen. Finish answering when listening for the second time.
- Check your answers: have you answered every question?

Sasha: Hi, Max!
Max: Hi, Sasha. How is it going?
Sasha: Everything is fine. But I am extremely busy with my school project. In fact, I forgot about the deadline. I thought it's next week but I have to finish it by this Friday.
Max: Oh! Sorry to hear! Perhaps I can help you somehow with the ideas. What is the topic by the way?
Sasha: My topic is the possibilities you have of knowing a foreign language.
Max: Have you already started your draft? Do you have any ideas?
Sasha: In fact, I have only one idea. That it is great to know a foreign language. English for instance. But I need at least three supporting facts.
Max: I think you need to provide several ideas with some proof. Do you have any real-life examples? Maybe knowing English helped some of your friends?
Sasha: Oh! How could I forget it? Thanks for your hint. In fact last year my cousin graduated from school and entered an international university in Prague.
Max: And where is the connection? I thought that the people there talk in Czech.
Sasha: Yeah! I was surprised too at first. But she explained to me that as the university is an international one all lectures are supposed to be in English.
Max: Wow! Is her English so perfect to attend lectures and seminars in it?
Sasha: As I remember you need to have at least the upper-intermediate level. She was studying hard last year to progress.
Max: How did she prove her level?
Sasha: You need to pass one of the several international exams that prove your level. Of course, it's not the only exam you need to pass but that's how her knowledge of English helped her to become closer to her dream.
Max: Sounds amazing! By the way, I also heard that passing the international exam and proving your level can allow you to get a job in another country. Great Britain, the US, Canada, or New Zealand for example.
Sasha: Hmm... I didn't know that! So now I have at least two ideas that support my research. Maybe I need to find some statistics on the Internet to make my project more reliable.
Max: Of course, you should! Oh… (laughing) We forgot to mention the key factor?
Sasha: What is it?
Max: Travelling for sure! English is the international language as we agreed! So in almost every country, you will be able to communicate!
Sasha: Oh yes! It probably should be in the first place in my list of points! So now I have enough ideas to finish my project! Thanks a lot!
Max: You are welcome! It was a pleasure to help you with the task! Call me any time if you need some assistance!
Sasha: Yes, sure! So see you tomorrow?
Max: Yes, see you!
