The Cathedral of Christ the Saviour is the third tallest Orthodox temple in the world and can be considered the main temple in Russia. It is also the place A______________.

The Cathedral's history began in 1812, B______________. Tsar Alexander I wanted a temple to be built in Moscow with the name of Christ the Saviour, in honour of those who fought and died in the Patriotic War of 1812. However, the first stone was laid only in 1839 under the reign of Tsar Nicholas I. After 44 years, the cathedral was finally completed and opened.

The Cathedral of Christ the Saviour stood only for about 40 years when it was blown up in 1931 by the order of the Soviet government to make space for the construction of the Palace of Soviets, C______________.
