Until about 100 years ago, it was thought that the Universe did not change over time. But during the 20th century, scientists collected evidence A______________, but is actually in a constant state of expansion and change. Its expansive state is associated with an explosive event known as the Big Bang.

The seeds for the new view of the Universe were planted in 1916, B______________, from which Dutch astronomer Willem de Sitter developed an imaginary expanding Universe. The idea became a reality in 1929 when Edwin Hubble showed that the Universe is expanding, which means that it was once smaller and denser.

It is believed that the Big Bang happened 13.7 billion years ago. It produced all energy, matter, and space, and marked the beginning of time. The Universe was dense, hot, and contained pure energy. It grew rapidly in size. It was made up of tiny particles of energy C______________. Within minutes, the Universe had almost completely transformed into atoms.

Over the next 300,000 years or so, the Universe expanded and cooled. When the temperature had dropped enough, not only the first stars, D______________. Over time, new stars were being born and dying, that is E______________.

The phrase "Big Bang Theory" has been popular among astrophysicists for decades, but it became widely used in 2007 F______________. In the show, people saw the home and academic life of several researchers, including physicists, an astrophysicist and an engineer.
