A. Diwali is the festival of lights which originated in India. This one-day festival usually occurs between mid-October and mid-November and is celebrated in many countries. Overall, it is a celebration of good over evil, light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance, but for Hindus, Sikhs and Jains the festival has different religious meanings. Many houses, shops and public places are decorated with small lamps called "diyas", fireworks are set off, religious rituals are practised and gifts are exchanged.

B.Holi is a religious spring festival. It originated and is predominantly celebrated in Nepal and India but has also spread to other regions of Asia and parts of the Western world. Bonfires are lit on the eve of the festival, also known as Holika Dahan, in memory of the miraculous escape that young Prahlad accomplished when Demoness Holika carried him into the fire. Holika was burnt but Prahlad escaped without any injuries due to his unshakable devotion. The celebrations can last up to 16 days.

C.A Mexican holiday, Day of the Dead focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died. The celebration takes place on November 1 and 2 and traditions connected with the holiday include building private altars honouring the deceased, eating favourite foods and beverages and visiting graves with gifts.

D.Carnival in Rio de Janeiro is the largest festival in the world. Samba music and dancing fill the streets, along with parades and creative costumes. Sleep becomes a low priority as parties keep going until sunrise. Some believe that Carnival originated in ancient Rome. There are various other theories as to this party's roots. But one thing is certain: Rio's melting pot of cultures embraces a diverse range of customs and beliefs. Everyone comes together to enjoy the energy of this colourful week.

E. Originally a religious feast for the patron saint of Ireland, St. Patrick's Day has evolved over the past century. It's now considered more of a general celebration of Irish culture that's honoured by cultures all over the world. The St. Patricks' Day Festival in Dublin is an extravagant display of pride in Irish heritage. People wear green clothes and have green things in their hands.

F. Considered one of the most breathtaking festivals in all the world, Yi Peng occurs on the full moon day of the twelfth lunar month every year, which normally means mid-way through November, but this can vary. During the festival, you'll see thousands of lanterns filled with wishes flying in the sky. Celebrated in Chiang Mai and across North Thailand, historically the festival was an important event used to represent the transition from the darker days of the rainy season to the lighter days of the cool season.

G. Hundreds of balloons take to the sky each year at the Albuquerque International Balloon Festival in Albuquerque, New Mexico during early October. Guests gather from all over the world to enjoy the magical views of these giant hot air balloons. The first festival was held in 1972 when just 13 balloons launched from a shopping mall parking lot. Today, the launch field is the size of 54 football fields, and it's considered to be one of the most frequently photographed events in the world.
